Research has shown art affects the fundamental sense if self. "Art influences society by changing opinions, instilling values and translating experiences across space and time.*
Maybe it's the fundamental sense of self that drives me most. Why are we here? How long do we have? How are we connected to our past or future? I try to express this using vibrant color, bold composition, and energy. This is what I stand for and this is what I offer you.
I paint in a style inspired by the great impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern masters. I've closely studied Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso, Jackson Pollock, John Marin, and many others. The paintings here are original - either from what I've stood and looked at, or what I've conjured in my head.
I trained as an artist at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and earned a Fine Arts Minor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
You can view my work in public spaces all around Milton and I've had paintings featured at the South Shore Art Center, Tavolo Restaurant, Ashmont Grill, the Coffee Break Cafe in Milton and The Gift Garden in Milton.
I hope you feel the energy of life in every painting you see here. Now take a peek - John Anthony Lawrence
